Reading is one of the things I love the most. I always like to set goals for what I want to read in the new year. I have set my Goodreads challenge to 200 books this year. For me this is achievable because in past years I have read twice this amount. But my circumstances have changed after graduating University, so I won’t have as much free time that comes with holidays.
I am excited for this year. One of my goals is to read all the books by some of my favourite, top authors. These are authors that are generally a 5 stars read for me and I want to get a chance to experience everything they have written. Some of the authors included in this list is Emma Scott, Aly Martinez, Alice Clayton, Linda Kage, Leylah Attar, Penny Reid, Carian Cole, Colleen Hoover, Rebecca Yarros, Tabitha Sazuma, Sophie Kinsella, Jay Crownover, J.M. Darhower, Amy Harmon, Cora Brent… Just to name a few. This will be a continual work in progress. When I find an author that I love, I know they are always a good choice when I don’t know what to read.
Another goal this year is to read more classics. I used to read nothing but classics and would refuse to read anything published after 1963 (this year is specific to any books published after The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath). But in 2013 I started reading more contemporary and I haven’t read as many classics as those first few years when I really started to love reading in 2010.
Similar to the goal above I want to read classics by some of my favourite authors. I want to read Anne Bronte, more Charlotte Bronte and Elizabeth Gaskell and Charles Dickens. Plus many more, I love books from the 18th and 19th centuries and I love being informed on history. There are also some modern classics that I want to read.
My final goal is to read a greater variety of books. I tend to stick to romance (although there is lots of variation in romance itself) I wouldn’t mid reading more literary fiction.
These are the books I’m looking forward to, in the first half of 2018…
