Book Review: Without Merit

Title: Without Merit

Author: Colleen Hoover

Rating: 4 stars

“Not every mistake deserves a consequence. Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness.”

Colleen is one of my go-to authors and I am never disappointed. Colleen always writes such unique and different stories with meaning. This book isn’t so much a romance (although there is a love story) but one of self-discovery and family.

Merit Voss comes from a very interesting and dysfunctional family. And Merit is just as dysfunctional as the rest. Merit is also the secret keeper of her family.

“No one would be able to determine from the outside of our house that our family of seven includes an atheist, a home wrecker, an ex-wife suffering from a severe case of agoraphobia, and a teenage girl whose weird obsession borders on necrophilia.
No one would be able to determine any of that from inside our house, either.”

Everything is not as it seems when it comes to these characters and this family, especially when all the secrets come up. There were many important lessons and themes in this story. People are redeemable and forgiveness is key.

Overall, the book is filled with surprises and was totally captivating. The story was original and powerful filled with some unforgettable characters and situations. There was lots of family drama, a love interest and the ability to feel lots of different emotions.

This was another fantastic read by Colleen Hoover that will stay with me for a while to come.
