“Maybe it’s okay to no longer be the person we thought we were meant to be. Maybe it’s okay to just be who we are now and accept that.”
Aria is sixteen and she loves art with all her heart. She used to go unnoticed, invisible, spending time with her best friend. Until one night when everything changes for her and everyone seems to notice her- albeit not in a good way.
Levi is the new guy in school, recently moving from Alabama to come live with his father who he hasn’t seen since he was young, hoping to reconnect. He has spent all his time with his mother, who has taught him the love of music. Music is everything to him.
Levi is drawn to Aria from the beginning and wants to make her smile. At first Aria is uncomfortable with the attention but she can’t deny that she is drawn to Levi.
“I wasn’t ready to admit it, or show it, but Levi made me smile. Not just on the outside, but on the inside, too.”
They become friends and get to know each other better when they are paired together for their Art and Soul project for school. Through this closeness they find themselves falling for each other. But it doesn’t come without its complications. Both characters are going through some stuff and the timing isn’t great.
“The world was often ugly and painful, filled with hate, sadness, and despair. But Aria? She made sense in a senseless world.”
I loved this book and adored the characters, especially Levi. He was sweet, caring and charming and I loved the way he was with Aria. Levi was such a kind character and a great friend. Levi and Aria’s story was heartwarming, beautiful, it made me smile and it made me cry.
